Located
in scenic Errol, NH, Northern Waters is set on the
Androscoggin River. In the immediate vicinity are remote
interconnecting rivers and lakes, offering the most exciting
canoe camping, kayak touring, new pontoon boat wildlife
tours, outdoor recreation and whitewater possibilities
in the Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
Our center offers canoe and touring kayak rentals,
equipment rental, tent campground, shower and rec. hall.
A motel, restaurant and store are nearby.
This is the place to come to learn whitewater canoeing
or kayaking, or to canoe in a pristine, uncrowded setting
with excellent fishing and camping, including trips into
the Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Area. Canoe rentals and
camping are available.
Just above the Errol Dam, there is a vast easily
accessible lake and river area that encompasses the The Magalloway
River and Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Northern
Waters can rent you either canoes or touring kayaks for trips
in this beautiful wilderness area. One of the outstanding
features is that true wilderness access is easy, and canoeing
trips are easily negotiated.
We also offer pontoon
boat wildlife tours.

Northern Waters has developed wilderness campsites on
the Magalloway River, making this beautiful wilderness canoeing
river accessible to our customers. This is easy canoeing
that is mostly spent in the Umbagog Lake National Wildlife
Refuge that extends up the Magalloway River from Umbagog
Lake. A highly recommended trip for those looking for wildlife
and solitude in a beautiful setting with easy access.
Located just across the river from Diamond Peaks is
the Dartmouth Land Grant, a spectacular wilderness sanctuary
featuring the Dead Diamond River Gorge, trout fishing and
good day hikes with well developed hiking areas and many
points of interest. We recommend a day exploring the grant
by foot. This is an exceptional day in the Maine woods.
Campsites Located at the base of the Rapid River,
flowing from Lake Richardson to Umbagog Lake, it is a popular
destination for trips in the Umbagog Lake National Wildlife
Refuge. These sites are located in the heart of the Maine
Woods with interesting day hikes available from this base.
There is also superior salmon fishing on the Rapid River.
Trip 1 Start at Wilson's Mills,
canoe the Upper Magalloway characterized by beautiful mountain
scenery. Camp at our Diamond Peak sites. Explore the Dartmouth
Land grant. Day 2 Canoe through the Magalloway River National
Wildlife Refuge to Culvert Camps or other state of New Hampshire
sites on Lake Umbagog, take out or canoe to Errol [Take out
for 2 days, longer paddle]. Easy flatwater trip and experience
level. Some hardy paddlers paddle to Cedar Stump (not for
beginners).
Trip 2 Day 1 Start at
Culvert Camps and canoe to Cedar Stump campsites crossing
Lake Umbagog through Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
Day 2 Canoe from Cedar Stump to Errol and through the Upper
Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
Trip 3 Day 1 Start at
Culvert Camps and canoe to Northern Waters campsites through
the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge. Day 2 Canoe the Upper
Androscoggin Class II whitewater. Some canoeing experience
necessary for whitewater.
These trips can be combined to make 3 and 4 day canoe trips
available. Day trips to any of these areas can be arranged
from our base either in canoes or touring kayaks. Touring
kayaks are not rented for the whitewater section of the Androscoggin
river for safety reasons.
Concierge Service, there are many beautiful Umbagog
Lake State run campsites on the north end of the lake. Unfortunately,
they are in high demand and are booked early in the winter.
Northern Waters will special plan trips for our customers
reserving the very best state sites possible for a fee of
$25.00. We recommend this be done prior to March 15th for
best selection.
Pontoon Boat Service, to selected campsites. Feel
like wilderness camping on Umbagog Lake Wildlife Refuge,
but don't feel like paddling? We will drop off your group
or pick up for a fee of $35.00 per person, minimum $150.00. (Charter entire boat for $350.00) This is the ultimate luxury
in wilderness camping.

Rental includes all accessories, including paddles, life
jackets, spray skirts and a full briefing on the area, with
maps included. Damage deposits required. Some age restrictions
apply.
We do not rent
whitewater kayaks. Whitewater kayaks are used only for our
school.
: The
minimum age for wll whitewater programs is 13 1/2, except
for flatwater trips on the Magalloway. Anyone under 17 years
of age must be accompanied by an adult.
